Ned's remain were recovered in the 1980's and he is now interred in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

A "Rosette" was placed in front of his name here at Manila to signify that his remains were recovered.

Ned served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on B-24D #42-72889, 321st Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Duplin County, North Carolina prior to the war.

B-24D #42-72889 took off, with a crew of 10, from Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea on a night bombing mission over Hollandia, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia.

About 4 minutes after takeoff they crashed for an unknown reason approximately 5 miles east of Nadzab Airfield. The entire crew was lost in this crash.

Ned was first declared "Missing In Action" on this mission and after his remains were recovered his status was changed to "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The remains of 2nd Lt. Paul G. Meyer, S/Sgt. Julian S. Miller, Jr., S/Sgt. Kenneth W. Rode, and T/Sgt. Robert W. Witt were all four noted as being recovered in 1944.

2nd Lt. Meyer's remains were noted as being recovered in 1944 however they were never found after the noted recovery.

S/Sgt. Miller was interred in the Sardis Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Charlotte, North Carolina in 1949.

S/Sgt. Rode's & T/Sgt. Witt's remains are interred in Manila.
