Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 21, 1946.

Oscar served as a Technical Sergeant & Engineer on B-24D "Yanks From Hell" #41-23716, 321st Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cumberland County, North Carolina prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 14, 1942 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of miscellaneous finished lumber products and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24D #41-23716 took off, with 23 other B-24's, from 5-Mile Drome (Wards - APO #713) near Port Moresby on a night bombing mission over Boram Airfield near Wewak, Papua New Guinea. They were hit & shot down by "intense" ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed at Cape Boram.

Oscar was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
