Marvin Burchfield was raised in the hills of the Smokey Mountains in Bryson City, NC. His parents, Caro Cleveland Burchfield and Catherine Talitha DeHart raised him and his siblings(10 in all) on Jenkins Branch.

A Honorably Discharged veteran of WWII, he attained the rank of SSgt. He served both in the USMC and the USN. At the age of 63, he became a deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Dept. Loving his country the way that he did, it was fitting that he was called home on Memorial day, May 28, 2001.

There are all gone now, but they will never be forgotten - Glen, Carl, Sam, Milburn, Horace, Telitha, Frank, Marvin, Wade, Wiley, and Carroll. What a great family!
