Private Alfred Wood Wightman, born 17 Mar 1925 in Boston, was the son of Alfred Reynolds Wightman and Dora Wood Moses of 86 Front street in Exeter, New Hampshire. Exeter is just southwest of Portsmouth.

Sep 1944 the 318th IR was engaged along the Ste Genevieve ridge east of the Moselle River and southeast of Pont a Mousson.
