"2nd Lt Ferris C. Suttle Jr., pilot of the P-51 Mustang 43-24756, took off from station 133 East Wretham, Norfolk, UK on a ground-attack mission against truck and rail convoys between Blainville and Dombasle. However, after their strafing run, Suttle never returned to the formation. Taking a second run in order to ensure his targets were destroyed, the low-flying plane caught the top of an Italian poplar tree and spiraled out of control to crash 400m from the RN4 between 0910 and 0940. Originally thought to be Canadian by the locals, Suttle did not survive the crash. He was found wrapped up in his parachute. His body was buried in the town until the end of the war...Even today (2016), the citizens of Dombasle still celebrate him as the 'savior' of their town..."
