Edward, prior to the war, resided at 412 North Bradford Street, Dover, Delaware.

He served as a Second Lieutenant and Bombardier on B-24J #42-51912, 741st Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group, Fifteenth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on August 12, 1941 in Dover, Delaware. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as being Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-51912 took off, with a crew of 10, from San Giovanni Field, Italy on a bombing mission over Odertal, Germany. After a successful bombing run over Odertal they were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire over the target which severed part of the nose of B-24J #42-51912, however, it appeared to remain under control.
