WWII Veteran, Army Air Corps, Killed in Action.

"Middleburgh — Staff Sgt, Charles J. Rickard, son of Mrs. Francis Straub of this village and DeForest L. Rickard of Missoula, Mont., has been reported missing in action since November 02 in an air raid over Germany. Sergeant Rickard, 23, a graduate of Middleburgh Central school, was a member of a bomber crew that flew in the aerial assault on the Messerschmidt factory in Austria. He entered the army August 7. 1942 and after preliminary training and graduation from specialized schools, he was assigned to a bomber crew and sent overseas. He was last operating from an African base. He has a brother, Lieut. J. Leslie Rickard in the anti-aircraft artillery, stationed at the Richmond, Va., army air base. He is a brother of Mrs. Douglas M. Jones of Ridgeroad, Scotia, Mrs. John Lester of Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Frederick D.
