John, who resided at 1422 Stapler Place, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant and turret gunner on a B-17, 401st Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" over Germany when his B-17 was hit by German anti-aircraft fire.

He had served in the Air Corps for one year and six months at the time of his death and was decorated with an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
