Edward served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-17 "Bar Fly" #42-40008, 532nd Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Milwaukee County, Wisconson prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 22, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-17 #42-40008 took off from Station 168, England on a bombing mission over Germany. After a successful mission, and while returning to their station, they were involved in a mid-air collision with B-17G #42-31490. They crashed near Volkershausen, 10 miles north-north-east of Schweinfurt, Germany.

Edward was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
