Richard served as a Staff Sergeant, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Merrimack County, New Hampshire and was a member of the New Hampshire National Guard prior to the war.

His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on February 24, 1941, prior to the war, from Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was "Killed In Action" near Leipheim, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the "Bronze Star" and the Purple Heart.
