Charles H. Loercher was born in Manheim, Lancaster, Pennsylvania one of 5 children to William (1881-1947) and Fannie (1895-1991).

Charles married Dorothy Walter in Manheim, Pennsylvania when they were both in their early 20's, right before WW II broke out.

Charles attended college at West Chester University in 1941 where he enjoyed playing baseball and eventually became a school teacher.

When World War II broke out Charles enlisted in the Army. Because he had a college degree, his title was First Lieutenant.

On June 16, 1944 while flying over AUSTRIA with the 741st Bomber Squadron 455th Bomber, his plane took a direct hit in the bomb bay area.

"Pam read the telegrams Aunt Dotty had received from the Army. The first said he was injured and in a field hospital. The next one dated about a month later said he was killed. The personal effects she received were not his. I really think she never got over losing him, Pam wrote."

No remains were ever found, yet, he has two (2) headstones in his memory.
One is in France, the other in Pennsylvania. He received many awards and honors.

Alongside his headstone (with no remains) in Fairview Cemetery, Pennsylvania, are buried his parents and 11 other family members.
Charles was only 23 when he was killed. Pam thinks her Mother Dotty was pregnant and lost the baby, but, she's not sure.
Something none of us will ever know.
