Second Lieutenant William Everett Kopf was Killed in Action on 14 October 1943 while serving as Pilot of B-17 aircraft #43-3216, "THE JOKER" on a bombing mission to Schweinfurt, Germany.
After 'bombs away', the aircraft was attacked by enemy fighters, exploded and crashed near Dilson, Belgium.
Seven crew men were Killed in Action and three crewmen evaded capture.
