On May 10, 1944 TSGT Kennedy was on the crew of the B-17G #42-31804 "The Irish Orphans" when they left their base at Fogia, Italy for a bombing mission to the Wiener Neustadt aircraft factory in Austria. Near the target they were damaged by enemy fire. They crashed near Vostenhof. Only two survived.
