Son of Milton Jones who resided in Hartford, Connecticut.

James served as a Technical Sergeant and Gunner on B-17G #42-31870, 49th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hartford County, Connecticut prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 26, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Single, with dependents.

B-17G #42-31870 took off from Amendola, Italy on a bombing mission over Steyr, Austria. They were attacked and shot down by German Fighters and crashed in Austria.

James was "Killed In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded an Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
