Son of Clifford O. Heaton who resided in Akron, Ohio.

Clifford served as a Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24 (#42-51401), 512th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Summit County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 10, 1943 in Akron, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Clifford was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down and crashed in Austria during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Sgt Heaton was a tailgunner for a Liberator bomber and was on an exceptionally dangerous mission, the plane was shot down by the Germans somewhere over Austria. He was first reported missing but his death was confirmed a week later. He is buried bedside his comrades.
