Robert served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-24J #42-100253, 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Cook County, Illinois prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 29, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Retail manager and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-100253 took off from San Pancrazio, Italy on a bombing mission over Regensburg, Germany. After the bombing mission was completed B-24J #42-100253, for an unknown reason, crashed into B-24D #42-72847 causing both aircraft to crash in Germany during the war.

Robert was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
