Corporal Charles Lick Anderson, ASN 33589615, born 12 Dec 1923, was the son of Edgar Samuel and Elizabeth A “Lizzie” (Lick) Anderson of 347 Main street, Royersford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Royersford is on the Schuylkill River 33 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
In the 1930 census 6 year-old Charles is living with his parents and 3 older brothers in unincorporated Linfield on the road from Linfield to Saratoga in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA. Limerick is 4 miles north northeast of Royersford. His father is a “Moulder” in a pipe foundry. By the 1940 census 16 year-old Charles is still living with his parents and 2 older brothers in Linfield.
Charles enlisted at Philadelphia on 11 Mar 1943 and was sent overseas on 1 Dec 1944. His occupation was listed as shipping and receiving clerk. He was single, without dependents.
Corp Anderson died 26 Feb 1946, 9 months after VE Day in May 1945, of injuries received in a fall in Berlin, Germany.
Pottstown Mercury (Pottstown, Pennsylvania) 06 Mar 1946, Wed – Royersford Youth Fatally Injured in Fall in Germany – Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Anderson, 514 Walnut street, Royersford, were notified by the War department that their son, Corp. Charles L. Anderson, 22, died from injuries suffered in a fall in Berlin on Feb. 26. Corporal Anderson joined the Army in March,1943 and served overseas one and a half years with the field artillery. He was a member of the Linfield Reformed church and the Boy Scout troop of the church. Surviving besides his parents are three brothers, Ernest W., 42 High Street, Pottstown; Herbert A., and Robert L., at home.
