Arrived at Utah Beach in Normandy, France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was killed in action June 15, 1944. Awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.

Survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean M. Icenogle (nee. Moffett), parents Bruce & Lula Icenogle, three brothers and two sisters. Preceeded in death by one brother.
