Alan served as a Electrician's Mate, First Class, U.S.S. LST-314, U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Derry, Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

Alan was declared "Missing In Action" when LST-314 was hit by a torpedo off of Normandy, France during the war.
