Son of Dr. William Spalding Green and Nell Putnam Green.

Husband of Teresa Marie Maguire Green.

Charles, who resided at 1214 West Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served as a Yeoman Second Class on the U.S.S. LST-523, with the Amphibious Corps, U.S. Navy during World War II.

While operating off the Normandy beachhead, LST-523 struck an enemy mine. Forty-two of her men perished in the incident. LST 523 was damaged so severely by the mine explosion that she sank almost immediately after being hit.

Charles was declared "Missing In Action" at the Omaha Beach head, Normandy, France in this sinking.

He had served in the Navy for nine months and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
