From "Delaware's Role in World War II: 1940-1946, Vol. I" by William H. Comer & Leon deValinger Jr.

"When a War Department telegram, announcing that Private Walter J. Dobek had been missing in action since D-Day, was sent to his father, Peter Dobek, of Wilmington, the latter never learned that sad news because he had himself just died, although the funeral had not take place. Private Dobek's mother died when he was a baby. Confirmation of his death was received two months later. He had been overseas since September, 1943, as a member of an Engineers' Corps Unit.
