Stanley served as a Private First Class, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Merrimack County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 1, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a industry clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

Stanley was "Killed In Action" in France soon after D-Day during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

His brother, Pvt Wesley C. Ash, also "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army in the Philippines during the war.
