Los Angeles Times, May 26, 1918: "Dead in France. Corp. Edwin W. Boggs, Victim of Pneumonia, Letter to His Mother States. Mrs. Lillian Hayward Boggs, the Lillian Hayward of the Ulrich Stock Company at the old Grand Opera House on Main Street years ago, received word from Washington yesterday her only son Corp. Edwin W. Boggs, had died in France of pneumonia on May 13. The soldier's mother and his 11-year old sister Jacqueline are heart broken. They have given their all.

"Corp. Boggs graduated from Hollywood High School three years ago. When war was declared he enlisted at once, but was not sent to France until last month. The mother, who lives at 1729 Sunset boulevard, received a card from her boy announcing his arrival 'over there' on April 19. The next message, this from Adjt. Gen. McClain announced the death of the young soldier. Corp. Boggs was 22 years old. He was with Co. 1 of the Fortieth Division."
