Adolphus served as a Driver with the 54th Field Company, Royal Engineers, 7th Division in World War One. He went to France with the B.E.F. on 5 Oct 1914 and was therefore entitled to the 1914 Mons Star Medal as well as the British War Medal and Victory Medal. The 7th Division took part in the Battles of 1st & 2nd Ypres, the Somme, Poziers, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood and Passchendaele. The 7th Division was then moved to Italy where they took part in the Battles of Piave and Vittorio Veneto. Since he died during the Battle of Vittorio Veneto it is possible he died of wounds but his record does not prove it.

In 1916 he married Jessie J. Daniel at Exeter, Devon.

He was the husband of Mrs. J.J. Lark of Priory Row, St. Austell, Cornwall.
