Dennis Nelson Hixson, 50, of the Glendale community, died Friday at his home.

He was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as president of the Mamie McGuire Sunday School Class.

Mr. Hixson was a graduate of Greeneville High School, where he played football for four years.

He later joined the U.S. Army.

Mr. Hixson was an employee of Magnavox for several years.

He was an avid UT Vols fan.

Mr. Hixson is survived by two sons: Joshua Nelson Hixson and Christopher Scott Hixson, both of Greene County; his parents: Mennis R. and Jeanette Hixson of Greene County; one sister: Tina D. Knight of Greene County; one nephew: Adam R. Knight of Missouri; a special aunt: Pat Ricker of Greeneville; and two special cousins: Sandra Ricker of Greeneville and Vera Ann Myers of Greene County.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home and from 6-8 p.m. today at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock at the church.

The Rev. Tammy Greene and the Rev. James Mays will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the church cemetery. The Greeneville-Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service.

Family, friends, and pallbearers will meet at the funeral home one hour prior to the graveside services.

Pallbearers will be Tim Gilbert, Bryan Ricker, Eldon Myers, Bob Ross, Mike Gosnell and Brian Ricker.

Honorary pallbearers will include the members of the Mamie McGuire Sunday School Class.
