Pte BLANKSCHEN M. E. was tried before General Court Martial under article of war 93, with menslaughter, involutary result of culpable negligence, in killing Pte POLLENDER in shooting him in the chest with a pistol 45 calibre. Was found guilty and sentenced to be discharged from the US Army, to forfeit all pay due or to become due and be confirmed at hard labour for a period not to exceed 3 years.

In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force (FSSF) in recognition of its superior service during World War II. On February 3, 2015 surviving FSSF Veterans were in Washington DC to accept this momentous recognition on behalf of their fellow Forcemen who could not be there.
