Son of Thomas and Isabella R. (nee Barnes) Sanderson. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 11 July 1916 and embarked from Sydney for active service abroad on 7 October 1916 per HMAT "Ceramic" (A40). He was killed in action at Chuignolles, France, aged 33 years.
