Charles served as a Private in the 517th Parachute Infantry Regimental Combat Team, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Dansville, Livingston County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 17, 1943 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a boilermaker and also as Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
