----'During the operations East of YPRES on the 4th October 1917, when the 54th Battery position was subjected to very heavy hostile fire, the dump at No. 1 gun pit was hit by a 4.2" shell. No. 117 Sergeant T. HYDE realising that the ammunition was in imminent danger of being destroyed, with the assistance of NO. 1985 Bombardier A. KLAR proceeded to pull away the burning camouflage, and throwing clear of the dump the damaged rounds which were likely to catch fire, succeeded in saving a considerable amount of ammunition at a time when it was most needed and the transport very difficult. The action of this N.C.O. is deserving of special recognition'
