Son of Charles & Elizabeth (nee Greaves) Brown of Prospect, S.A.; he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 30 September 1915, aged 24 years and embarked from Adelaide with the 32nd Battalion for the Suez on 7 February 1916 per HMAT "Miltiades" (A28). His battalion relocated to the Western Front, France in June 1916. He was killed in action at the Battle of Fromelles, aged 28 years.
