Son of the late George Crowe and Jane Cathcart Crowe Cochrane of 37 St Edmonds Road, Prahran, Victoria. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 22 February 1916 and embarked from Melbourne for active service abroad on 3 June 1916 per HMAT "Persic" (A34). He was killed in action at La Base Ville, aged 25 years.
