635 Squadron's Avro Lancaster III (#ND820), with an aircrew of seven, was on a bombing practice flight when a malfunction of the aircraft caused it to crash and burst into flames in a remote Lincolnshire area near Bicker. The body of only one member of the crew was able to be recovered.

The seven airmen who perished in this incident were-

RAFVR Flight Sergeant Joseph Bernard BANNAN,

RAFVR Flight Sergeant Douglas James FARRANT,

RAFVR Flight Sergeant Anthoney Ivor Gwynne HUNTER,

RFVR Warrant Officer Roland Thornton LORD,

RAFVR Sergeant Reuben Horace Frederick MALTHOUSE,

RCAF Sergeant John William NIXON and

RCAF Flying Officer Thomas Ferguson WILSON.
