CUMMINGS, ROBERT WO2 (Air Gunner) R141707. From Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Killed. In Action Dec 11, 1943 age 20. #617 Dambuster Squadron (Apres Moi Le Deluge). Lancaster aircraft #ED 825 was shot down at Meharicourt, France during a night trip over enemy-held territory. F/O G.H. Weeden, WO E.J. Walters, FS R.G. Howell (RAF), P/O R.N. Jones (RAF), Sgts A.W. Richardson (RAF), and B. Robinson (RAF) were also killed. WO Cummings had been slightly injured on December 17, 1942 when his Wellington aircraft had the starboard engine fail and the pilot made a forced landing at the Harfaxtog Landing. Ground, England. Warrant Officer Class II Air Gunner Cummings was buried at Meharicourt, exhumed, and reburied in the Calais Canadian War Cemetery, Leubringerr, Pas De Calais, France. Aircraft was shot down Dec 11, 1943, by antiaircraft battery, and crashed near Doullens, France.
