Born in Scotland, emigrated to Australia in 1911. Employed in the fabric industry and played professional football with the Melbourne Thistle Club. Joined Australian Forces (following prior service with the Scottish Royal Highlander Regiment) in 1915 and critically wounded by shell fire in the chest during the Battle of Fromelles on July 19th, 1916. Died later that day of his wounds. Buried in the Laventie Cemetery on 6 Aug 1916.
