Casualty of the Great War,Leslie aged 22, served with the 8th Bn.,The York and Lancaster Regiment.Native of Newtown,NSW, Australia. Awarded the Military Cross.

His brother, Second Lieutenant James Ekin,aged 19, also fell.He rests at LONSDALE CEMETERY, AUTHUILLE-Grave Reference:VI. O. 1.

Both served with the 8th (Service) Battalion, the York and Lancaster Regiment and both fell on the same day.

Extract from the London Gazette, 22 September 1916 -
Second Lieutenant Leslie Ekin -
"For conspicuous gallantry as Officer in command of a Lewis gun team. He led his men across the open under heavy machine gun and shell fire in which they all became casualties and he, himself wounded.Notwithstanding, he took the gun forward alone and continued to serve it until it was knocked out of action again and he was seriously wounded again."

They were sons of James and Josephine Alice Ekin of De Walden Court, Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England.
