Springfield Boy Dies In France - Calvin W. Hesse, a Springfield soldier, formerly of 718 North First street, has died in France of pneumonia according to word received from the war department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hesse. Hesse, the official notificaton states, died November 23. He was a member of the medical department.
He was born in Springfield and is survived by his parents, two sisters and four brothers. Hesse was 21 years old and attended Springfield public schools, and the high school. Prior to enlistment in the service of his country he was employed at Dodd's Drug store, where he gained considerable popularity. Two years ago he left to study pharmacy at the University of Illinois from where he graduated.
Hesse enlisted April 15, 1918, and entered training at Fort Sheridan. He sailed for France July 12.
