He served in the 1/1 Royal East Kent Yeomanry (East Kent Mounted Rifles) a Territorial Regiment which was mobilized on 4 Aug 1914 on the outbreak of the war. They were dismounted and sailed from Liverpool on 24 Sept on the RMS Olympic arriving at Lemnos on 1 Oct 1915. They landed on Gallipoli on 7 Oct 1915 as part of the 42nd East Lancashire Division. His burial records indicate he Died of Wounds and his burial was officiated by Rev. M.W. Robertson at Pink Farm Cemetery.
