Stanley served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24J "Bar Fly" #42-100248, 409th Bomber Squadron, 93th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 17, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a welder and also as Single, without dependents.

Stanley was "Killed In Action" when his B-24, while returning from a bombing run over Pforzheim, Germany, was hit by enemy flak and crashed near Reims, France during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Four of the crew members from this B-24 are interred "Side by Side" here at Epinal and include: T/Sgt McCallen, 1st Lt. Robbins, S/Sgt Speier, and 1st Lt. Wagner.

Stanley is interred close to them being only 4 rows away in the same section.
