Son of Louise S. McLean who resided in Homestead, Florida.

Fred served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator on B-17 "Pat Hand" #42-30607, 337th Bomber Squadron, 96th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cook County, Illinois prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 23, 1941, prior to the war, in Chicago, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, with dependents.

Fred "Died Of Wounds" received in action on September 15, 1943 when his B-17, while returning from a bombing run in the Hispano/Suisa complex, was hit by enemy ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed in Central Paris, France during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was interred, side by side, with six other members of his crew here at the Epinal American Cemetery.
