He resided in Pierce County, Washington prior to the war.

Wilson was "Killed In Action" while attacking a German machine gun position in the assault upon Taintrux and the surrounding hill mass toward St. Die. He was awarded the "Distinguished Service Cross" and the Purple Heart.

(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: Private First Class Wilson F. Rodgers (ASN: 39209620), United States Army, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company K, 409th Infantry Regiment, 102d Infantry Division, in action against enemy forces from 14 to 16 November 1944. Private First Class Rodgers' intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 103rd Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
