MEMORIAL SERVICES SUNDAY AT CHURCH FOR YOUNG OFFICER
2nd Lieutenant Myron Newell, 27, was killed in action when a bomber plane of which he was one of the crew, was shot down over Paris on September 15, 1943, according to word received in a telegram to the boy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Newell of near Cutler, from the U.S. War Department. He had previously been listed as missing in action.
Young Newell was a graduate of the Cutler High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army four years ago and graduated from bombardier's school at San Angelo, Texas on January 7, 1943.
Surviving besides the parents are two sisters: Annabelle of Plymouth, Indiana and Jean of Lafayette, Indiana and the grandfather, William W. Cook of Cutler, Indiana.
In honor of the flyer, memorial services were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Ball Hill Methodist Church. The Flora Legion Post took part in the services with color-bearers and firing squad. The Legion quartet sang. Speaker was Reverend Robert E. Sheagley of Lebanon, Nebraska, a former classmate of Lieutenant Newell.
