Jack served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24J "Bar Fly" #42-100248, 409th Bomber Squadron, 93th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 2, 1942 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in warehousing and also as Single, without dependents.

Jack was "Killed In Action" when his B-24, while returning from a bombing run over Pforzheim, Germany, was hit by enemy flak and crashed near Reims, France during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Jack was interred, side by side, with three other members of his crew here at the Epinal American Cemetery: 1st Lt. Robbins, S/Sgt Speier, and 1st Lt. Wagner.

Graduated from Pitcairn High School, Pitcairn, PA and attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. Enlisted in the military 9/19/1942 and was a radio operator on a B24 Liberator. He was based at Harwick Air Field in England, and was with the "Mighty Eighth". His crew was part of "Ted's Traveling Circus". He was shot down over Reims, France April 1, 1944, and the only surviver was the tail gunner who was captured and taken as a prisoner. T/Sgt McCallen was the son of Charles and Elizabeth McClowry McCallen
