Joseph served as a Private, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Cuyahoga County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 16, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a nonprocess occupation in manufacturing and also as Single, with dependents.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" near the Seine, River in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

His brother, PFC William A. Lang, also "Died Of Wounds" during the war and is interred next to him (see photo to the right). They are one of fourteen pairs of brother's interred together in the Epinal American Cemetery, France.
