Joseph served as a Captain, Office of Strategic Services, European Theater, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Hampden County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 12, 1941, prior to the war, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a machine shop and also as Single, without dependents.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in a parachute drop known as Operation Adrian during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Operation Adrian's mission was to harass or destroy remnants of enemy escaping from Southwest France north and east to the Belfort Gap into Germany.
