Robert Kameoka was killed in action in France while serving with the 7th Army's 442nd Japanese American Regimental Combat Team. Kameoka, who volunteered from the now defunct Jerome, Arkansas, Relocation center, went overseas in May 1944. He directed a program of Hawaiian music over KMJ before being sent to the camp in 1942.
He attended schools in Hawaii, graduating from college there. His parents live in the Islands. Kameoka was a Hanford musician before he donned the uniform.
