He took off from Beuseville, France on an armored recce mission to Montreau, France. Pilot strafed several vehicles on the road running NNE of Troyes, about six miles from the town. On his fourth pass he evidently came in too steep and left his pull out to late and mushed into the ground and exploded at La Berge au Fosse at Aubeterre, nine miles north of Troyes at 1545hrs.
