Son of Frederick A. Hoppy who resided in Amsterdam, New York.

William served as a Private First Class, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Union County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 3, 1943 in Albany, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

William was "Killed In Action" in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (New York) instead of his state of residence (Pennsylvania).
