Thomas served as a Private First Class, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Banks County, Georgia prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 2, 1943 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farm Hand and also as Single, with dependents.

Thomas was "Killed In Action" in France during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Thomas was a close friend of PFC Jack H. Moss and is interred next to him at Epinal.
