During his time served with the 3rd Division John had been part of the Allied invasion of Sicily & Salerno, Italy, the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy, Battle of Anzio, Italy, Operation Diadem in Italy, and Operation Dragoon (the invasion of South France).
John was "Killed In Action" while fighting in what was known as the Colmar Pocket near Alsace, France. He reportedly had been wounded three times during his service to our country.
He had served the Army for two years and five months at the time of his death.
He was decorated with the "Bronze Star" and Purple Heart.
