John served as a First Lieutenant and Co-Pilot on B-24 (#41-29496) "RAM IT-DAMMIT" with the 506th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Pennsylvania prior to the war.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by flak on a mission to Rheims, France during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Flying in a B-24 that took off from Shipdham assigned target Seine Bridges near Creil, France. Hit by flak in the flight deck during the bomb run. Caught fire and went into a steep dive, exploded and crashed 1949hrs at La Ferme Megret, 550 yards south of Creil 7 KIA 4 POW. He was serving as the Co-pilot.
